Yes, it must be a valid user name.

    Re: 500 5.5.2 Error

The postmaster address is built in, so there shouldn't be a user account with that name. Change in mercury.ini to:

postmaster:    admin    # NetWare UIC of postmaster

Then please try again after restarting Mercury.

    /Rolf

    Two things.

    1.  Show us the C:\XAMPP\MERCURYMAIL\MAIL\pmail.usr file

    2.  Change the [Domains] section to remove the localhost as server name, that is change this

    [Domains]
    ;server name: domain name
    localhost: localhost
    localhost: [127.0.0.1]
    localhost: [66.66.45.90]
    localhost: upinsmoke.bounceme.net
    localhost: fmm.no-ip.org

    To this

    [Domains]
    ;server name: domain name
    server: localhost
    server: [127.0.0.1]
    server: [66.66.45.90]
    server: upinsmoke.bounceme.net
    server: fmm.no-ip.org

I am also sending a couple of test messages to your system.

    The MAIL FROM is invalid.

You have a "display name" field that shouldn't be there.

Also an extra set of <>.

I think this is my problem. The display name is the forums name (not sure i can remove it without having a blank named forum) also i set the email to postmaster@upinsmoke.bounceme.net and it adds the <> into the email before mercury gets it. i dont see that when i put the email in my forums. I got your test emails stephenson. Sorry about the screenshot being so small(had to keep file size small to get it into the forum post).

    Re: 500 5.5.2 Error

There is either something wrong with the forum scripts or with your settings for it.

The "display name" is for the From: address in the message body but is is NOT allowed in the MAIL FROM: address in the SMTP envelope.

    Re: 500 5.5.2 Error

thanks alot for all your help. I posted on the SMF (my forum software) website the same day i started this thread. Still nothing from them. Anywhere else i post they blame mercury and suggest i change mail program. I like mercury, its simple and does exactly what i want it to do. I had SMF and mercury working well together for yrs.

    Re: 500 5.5.2 Error

You are probably better to ask the SMF developers or forum.

    EDIT: Big Smile

Turn on session logging in MercS to capture the transaction, so you can show them what it is doing wrong.

I would expect any other mail server to reject the invalid MAIL FROM as well.

I suspect it is just a simple error in the SMTP script, calling the wrong 'From' variable.
