Mysterious behavior of the "From" field

My e-mail hosting service automatically sends to my e-mail address a copy of every message I send. When they are downloaded into Pegasus I use a filter to put them in the Copies to Self folder. The From field of these copies contains my name. So I use Message Properties to indicate that the message is a copy to myself and to change the To field to the actual recipient. Then when the message header info. is displayed in the folder list I see "To: [recipient].

I have thought that the e-mail hosting service was responsible for my name in the From field. But I have discovered that if I move a message whose properties I have edited from the Copies to Self folder to the Inbox, the previously edited From field once again contains my name.

So I conclude Pegasus is responsible for placing the undesirable data (my name) in the From field.

Re: Mysterious behavior of the "From" field

I'm not shure about what you are doing there. First you say you edit TO, then you edit FROM?!

Changing the message property for copy to self results Pegasus showing the TO-field of the mails headers. But this doesn't change the TO-Field! Even if you change the text to be displayed this won't change neither TO- or FROM-Field! Have a look at raw-view of mail (copy to self). I asume that  Pegasus saves the "text to be displayed" in the indexfile (PMI) of the folder (can't find that in messageheaders so the mail in mainfile of folder PMM isn't changed). If you move that message to another folder, this information will be lost, because it is specific to the folder, not the mail.

I asume the headerfields of the mails you get in copy from yourhosting service contain your mailadress in TO-field and that's the reason you want to change it. I don't know, why you don't use the copyfunction of Pegasus (OK ... there are some reasons), but there is another way to get that realy sent copy. Disable that service at your hosting service (cause they obviously change original headers with that instead of making a bounce) and enter a permanent BCC (blind carbon copy) to your mailaddress in Pegasus. If you create a special mailaddress for that, you may automatically filter the mails to "Copies to Self" (in case someone else sends a mail to you using BCC for your address). But filterrules seem to have no option to automatically change the message properties.

Re: Mysterious behavior of the "From" field

Thank you for such a thoughtful reply.

Explaining that the Message Properties are folder-specific is helpful to know.

My email hosting service (Google Apps for Business) sends the automatic copies. I am using a feature called Recent Mode so that my emails are not archived on the server (i.e. cloud) - although they do stay in the
Trash for 30 days. I could turn off Recent Mode & use your BCC suggestion but then I would have to manually delete those messages from the server.

So it looks like  I'll just have to live with what I've got.
